RONALD PATTERSON

Ron PattersonA student of Jascha Heifetz, Eudice Shapiro and Manuel Compinsky, Patterson has concertized extensively in the United States and Europe since the age of 11, performing 45 works (including six world premieres) in more than 150 solo performances with orchestra. He has been acclaimed for his "skill, authority and imagination" by the New York Times. From
1965 to 1999, Patterson was concertmaster of the Monte-Carlo, Houston, Denver, and Miami symphonies, St. Louis Little Symphony, and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. He was a founder and Associate Professor of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University (Houston, 1974-1979) and Assistant Professor at Washington University (St. Louis, 1967-1971), as well as on the faculty of Stetson University (Florida, 1975-1979), MacMurray College (Illinois, 1966) and the University of Miami (Florida, 1965). Since 1999, Patterson has been Professor of Violin at the University of Washington, where he teaches violin, pedagogy and orchestra repertoire.

Patterson has recorded for CRI, ERATO, ORION, VOX, Ante Aeternum, Virgin Classics, Serenus, Philips, and EMI. A five-time First Prize Winner of the Coleman Chamber Music Competition, he has performed chamber music with some of the greatest musicians of our day, including Heifetz, Piatigorsky, and Szeryng. In 1998 he was named Officier de l'Ordre du Merite Culturel, one of the Principality of Monaco's highest honors.

GRANT DONNELLAN

Grant Donnellan

Violinist GRANT DONNELLAN holds a Master of Music degree and Performance Certificate from Yale School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Oberlin Conservatory. His principal teachers include Sydney Harth, Eric Friedmann, Roland and Almita Vamos, and the Tokyo String Quartet. While at Yale he received the Ellen Battell-Stoeckel Chamber Music Excellence Award and was a member of the Irving S. Gillmore Scholarship Piano Trio. He has performed with numerous symphony orchestras, including the American Sinfonietta. Donnellan has been a guest artist at the Olympic Music Festival, the Governor's Recital Series, Bellingham Festival of Music, Wintergreen Music Festival, Cascadia Spring Music Festival, the Boulder Bach Society and the Holzhausen Music Festival in Germany. He has performed concertos with the Whatcom Symphony, Northwest Sinfonietta and the Western Washington University Symphony Orchestra. He teaches violin and coaches chamber music at Western and co-directs the summer Chamber Music Festival.

FRITZ GEARHART

Fritz Gearhart

Fritz Gearhart has performed for audiences from coast to coast. He has appeared in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie six times since 1998 and at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center as concertmaster of the New York Chamber Ensemble. Several compact discs featuring Gearhart have been released in the last few years to rave reviews. Mr. Gearhart has been heard frequently on National Public Radio including several live broadcast performances. First violinist of the Chester String Quartet in the early 90’s, Gearhart continues to be very active in chamber music and now performs regularly with the Oregon String Quartet. In January 2001 Gearhart appeared as soloist with the Oregon Festival of American Music performing Bernstein's Serenade, and in 2004 he performed Corigliano’s Red Violin Chaconne to a sold out audience of over 2000: "Gearhart gave a stunning performance...the technical challenges of the piece did not faze him in the least…" (Eugene Register-Guard). Gearhart received his Master's Degree and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music where he studied with Donald Weilerstein. Earlier studies at the Hartt School included work with Charles Treger and members of the Emerson Quartet. Mr. Gearhart is currently on the faculty of the University of Oregon School of Music.

LESLIE KATZ

Leslie Katz

Leslie Brown Katz is a tenured member of the Los Angeles Opera and performs regularly at Disney Hall for the Los Angeles Master Chorale. She has served as concertmaster in such musically diverse posts as the Wayne Newton Show in Las Vegas, and with the Norwejian Radio Orchestra in Stavanger, Norway. Leslie also produced and performed the Grammy nominated solo CD, “The Jewish Violin Sings” featuring Jewish treasures from Baroque composer Salamone Rossi to contemporary composers Meir Finkelstein and Willian Sharlin.

A two time winner of the Music Academy of the West Chamber Music Competition, Leslie Katz was student of Eudice Shapiro (violin,) and Gabor Reito (chamber music,) and participated in the Seattle Youth Symphony organization from age 11 with conductor Vilem Sokol, both in Seattle and at Ft. Flagler, the original site of the SYSO summer music camp now known as Marrowstone.

A leading Suzuki technique teacher in the Los Angeles area, Leslie Katz received teacher training from John Kendall, Michele George, Susan Kempter and Cathy Lee and now maintains a busy private Suzuki Violin Studio along with her performing and recording career. She loves playing chamber music with her family and friends.
