Application Process

Apply online to Marrowstone today! Applicants will need to do the following:

  1. Follow the link below to the Marrowstone ArtsApp portal. artsapp.com/marrowstone
  2. Register on the ArtsApp site and click "My Dashboard" at the top of the screen.
  3. Select which Division and Instrument you are applying for and complete the application. Information about the different divisions can be found here.
  4. Upload any media files required (audition recordings and musical resume). When uploading files, the Media Name should be "Composer, Title".
  5. Submit the $65 application fee here:


Your application will not be reviewed until you submit your payment.

Admission to Marrowstone Summer Music is based on musical ability and orchestral balance.

Audition

Application to Marrowstone is divided into three divisions: Pre-College, University, and Fellowship Divisions. Scroll down to the appropriate subheading for your audition requirements.

ALL APPLICANTS please observe the following:

Recordings should not exceed 15 minutes in duration.

Recordings should be unaccompanied if possible.

University and Fellowship Division Applicants

All University or Fellowship Division applicants must audition regardless of past participation.

All Instruments: selection of concerti, sonatas or etude excerpts of 10-15 minutes in length sufficient to demonstrate both technical mastery and lyrical expressivity. Selections may be accompanied or unaccompanied, however unaccompanied is preferred.

When uploading selections to ArtsApp be sure to clearly indicate the Composer and Title for each selection.

Additionally, all University and Fellowship Division applicants must include a Letter of Recommendation. See below for guidelines regarding the Letter of Recommendation.

Pre-College Division Applicants

String and percussion participants in SYSO's Youth and Junior Orchestras are not required to submit an audition CD, nor are returning Marrowstone string or percussion players. All other documents are required.

Strings - Include one major and one minor scale of three octaves each and two-minute excerpts from two contrasting solo works, one fast and one slow.

Woodwinds & Brass - Include one major and one minor scale of two octaves each, one tongued and one slurred, plus two-minute excerpts from two contrasting solo works, one fast and one slow.

All Percussion - Include no more than a two-minute excerpt on each of the following: xylophone, snare drum, and timpani.

Piano & Harp - Include two pieces of contrasting styles that demonstrate level of proficiency.

Letter of Recommendation Guidelines

The letter of recommendation is required for University and Fellowship Division applicants. It is optional but encouraged for Pre-College applicants.

Recommendations may be sent directly to the Marrowstone office by the recommending teacher. Please ensure that the teacher has sealed it in an envelope and signed it on the fold.
Give your teacher plenty of notice so that they may write the best possible letter and mail it before the April 1st, 2012 deadline.

Letters of recommendation should
:

Clearly indicate the student’s name and instrument

Identify the length and depth of the student’s relationship to the teacher

Include remarks on both the student’s musicianship and character
