Student ProgramThe program is designed for string, woodwind, brass, percussion, harp and piano students ages 13-23 years old. Orchestra Study & Performance Chamber Music Study, and Performance Opportunities to perform in student chamber music ensembles are available to talented students by audition only. Student chamber music performances are held on Friday evenings. Master Classes & ElectivesMarrowstone faculty members present several master classes every weekday over the course of the two week period. Information on participating in Master classes will be provided in the student's acceptance packet. Each year electives and symposiums are offered on a variety of topics, some of which have included: theory, ear-training, composing, and conducting, and audition preparation/college application. More information on electives will be available at check-in. Concerto CompetitionWinner(s) of the Marrowstone Concerto Competition perform with one of the orchestras on a student orchestra concert. Students wishing to compete should send two copies of an audio CD of their performance complete with piano accompaniment to the Marrowstone office, postmarked no later than June 15st. A panel of faculty adjudicators select the winner(s) based on musicianship and preparedness. Applications and additional requirements for the Concerto Competition will be included in the student's acceptance packet. Faculty PerformancesStudents have the opportunity to attend faculty rehearsals and public chamber music performances free of charge. Fellowship ProgramAdvanced collegiate music students 18-25 years old are encouraged to apply for a fellowship. Fellows are accepted by and work directly with a specific faculty-mentor. All fellows perform in one full orchestra and in the Fellowship Chamber Orchestra. Additional duties vary but may include performing in chamber ensembles and offering assistance to younger students during their private practice hours.
Chamber Orchestra & Chamber Music Opportunities All fellows play in the Fellowship Chamber Orchestra. The orchestra presents two concerts over the two-week period, featuring concertos from the classical era featuring faculty soloists. Compensation Fellows receive a full scholarship to attend Marrowstone, including free room and board. Fellows are responsible for their own travel expenses, the initial application fee, and a $250 refundable damage deposit. College CreditBoth students and fellows may apply for college credit for chamber music, orchestra and elective course work.
